Pocket, Fat, and Magic Books

The pocket book

The Pocket Books series gets fatter. Freud and Divination is here, written by Aradia Academy’s janitor, Bent Sørensen. Those who have taken courses at Aradia Academy will know Bent Sørensen as a smart wit and a ‘read like the Devil’ reader.

What does Sigmund Freud have to do with magic and cartomancy? Surprisingly much, Bent Sørensen argues, while looking at five key Freudian insights and applying them to the ways of and reasons for reading cards and performing magic.

This pocket book looks at how we can be better card readers when we also know a few basic Freudian insights and apply them to standard practices and problems in cartomancy, fortune-telling and client interaction. What happens when the Uncanny occurs in a sitting, or when the sitter displays blind spots and negations - or acts out in rampantly narcissistic ways?

Freud and Divination is a small book but full of original and useful insights. This book is the third in the Pocket Book series that started with the Heart Sutra and Tarot followed by the small book, Divination with Cards published last year that has now changed format, as it’s more suitable for this series.

Enjoy the pocket books!

The fat book

The fat book is called The Fragment. An unexpected surprise, as I didn’t think I’d return to old thoughts and ideas. But when you happen to write a classic, it demands attention. Let me explain below.

When The Fragment: Towards a History and Poetics of a Performative Genre first came out in 2004, it was celebrated as an original and insightful study. It also went out of print as soon as it was published. Years down the road people kept asking for it, but the previous publisher didn't do reprints. EyeCorner Press took over on permission to reprint, and The Fragment is once more out.

It was pleasing to see that as soon as it hit the market, it went to Number 1 New Release in the Philosophy and Aesthetics category. So, people still want this one. Thank you.

Although a purely academic study, the Devil never sleeps. The first epigraph is from The Devil's Dictionary, and just as fresh as it was in 2004. The same applies to all the thoughts about odds, the oracular, chance, and prediction, applied to the monumental task of defining the concept of the fragment, all the way to the last page.

I was quite amazed to see that I still do the same thing as I did years ago, only in another form. In a manner of speaking, The Fragment is very much a study into the reading like the Devil, demonstrating that I haven't changed my mind where a few fundamental principles for seeing the obvious are concerned.

Enjoy the 452 pages of consistency.

The magic book

The magic book is also psychology related, this time to Jung. John Granrose’s classic study on The Archetype of the Magician is a book that addresses three themes: What does the magician symbolize in human life? What are the aspects of the archetypal image of the magician? What is the archetype of the magician? These are questions relating to understanding one’s psyche through magical awareness.

Those of you awaiting the release of the Red Tarot may have noticed the image of the Magician on the cover of professor Granrose’s new book. Let’s just say that I lent him my image in anticipation of the Red Tarot that will finally find other homes next month, as soon as Brexit gets its shit together, and the Covid-afflicted postal service finally resumes regular mail out of Denmark.

The Archetype of the Magician is intended for all who want to have a more nuanced view of the archetype of the magician from a Jungian perspective, and as we encounter this term in history, our shared linguistic competence, and collective memory.

All these books are available from all Amazons, Barnes and Noble, Blackwell’s in the UK, Book Depository and others. I prefer to send everybody to Barnes and Noble for swift and quick deliveries.

I hope you enjoy these new offerings from EyeCorner Press.

Some witchery

Lastly, since we’re with books today, let me remind you of the 4-hour seminar organized by Incite Seminars around my book The Childless Witch: Trembling, Dance, Voice, Oracle, Grace on March 27. Registration is now open.

Stay safe, and stay tuned. Think about odds, and how amazing it is that we actually get to hear about such things in this day and age, with the Internet flooding our existences on a daily basis.

All who follow our work here, thank you. You have our gratitude.
