DESCRIPTION

In this book Camelia Elias offers ten examples of reading the six-card draw with the Marseille Tarot. The topic is the theme of choice and the common thread that runs through it is the question of what is at stake when we compare situations. With her usual read like the Devil aplomb, Elias recalls the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, deconstructs the paradox of choice and memory, and tells the story of reading cards for the local Lutheran priest.

MOJO WORKIN’

What is a mojo bag? A mojo bag is a magical bag that can contain a prayer, spellbinding phrases, herbs of protection, stones, and other objects of power. In other words, it is an amulet that has a magical function. All according to what’s in the bag, and under what conditions the items in the bag have been prepared – usually through a ritual – the aim of the bag is to lend its bearer the intended  power that the maker invested it with.

Although the name, ‘mojo bag,’ comes from the African American spiritual practice called Hoodoo, the idea of a bag as a carrier of power can be found in most other cultures, being popular with the practitioners of folk magic.

The talisman presented here has been devised around the intention to turn every act of choosing into an art. As some choices are difficult to make, it’s good to be reminded of the fact that through special awareness, the decisions that confront us can stand clearer and sharper.

The mojo bag here personally crafted, from cloth to content, has this aim: to lend the bearer awareness of what is at stake in choosing artfully. This awareness in not only literally marked with an orange thread for clear sight, but it also comes in the form of oracular words, a few good stones, and a postcard.

Contents of the mojo bag:

Six small cards containing words extracted from the book via bibliomancy. Use them for the following act: perform a 6-card divination with your own cards in connection with a choice you need to make, and then stick your hand into the mojo bag. Pick a card. Read it and use it as a full stop to the sentence that the cards give you, or as a punctuating marker to the interpretation you arrive at.

Stones: 2 small pieces of olivine, 2 pieces of carnelian, 2 crystals, a seashell and a pebble from the North Sea picked on the day of the launch under the gaze of the full moon. Each of these enhance clear sight, with olivine, for instance, regulating more specifically the gut and its wisdom, and carnelian assisting all carnal choices.

One postcard featuring the card of the Lovers from the unique Carolus Zoya Marseille Tarot. Send it to a lover, or to yourself.
